Work With Mt. Spokane Ski Race Team

Turn your love of skiing into an opportunity to make a difference.

Mt. Spokane Ski Race Team (MSSRT) is a nonprofit youth alpine ski organization dedicated to developing confident skiers, capable competitors, great teammates, and lifelong members of the mountain community.

Each season, we bring together a team of coaches and staff who share a love of skiing, working with young people, and spending winter in the mountains.

Whether you're an experienced alpine coach, a former racer, an instructor, a college student looking for meaningful seasonal work, or simply a strong skier who is great with kids, we'd love to hear from you.

2026–27 Opportunities

MSSRT is currently accepting applications and expressions of interest for the 2026–27 winter season.

Alpine Ski Coaches

We are seeking enthusiastic coaches to work with athletes across our youth development programs.

Depending on experience and program assignment, coaching opportunities may include:

  • U8/U10 introductory race programming

  • U12 athlete development

  • U14+ competitive programming

  • Weekend training

  • Weekday/night training

  • Holiday and preseason camps

  • Home and travel race coaching

Previous ski racing or coaching experience is valuable, but not required for every position. Strong skiers with experience working with children, teaching, instructing, mentoring, or participating in competitive athletics are encouraged to apply.

Experienced & Certified Coaches

We are also interested in connecting with experienced alpine coaches interested in taking on greater responsibility within our programming.

Opportunities may include athlete development, travel racing, race-day leadership, course setting, staff mentorship, and other technical responsibilities based on experience and certification.

What We're Looking For

Great MSSRT coaches are people who:

  • Love skiing and being outside in winter

  • Enjoy working with kids and young athletes

  • Are dependable and communicate well

  • Create positive, athlete-centered environments

  • Value teamwork and sportsmanship

  • Are interested in continuing to learn and develop as coaches

  • Can balance fun, skill development, and appropriate competitive challenge

Above all, we're looking for people who want to help kids love skiing and the mountains.

Schedule

Our primary winter season runs approximately mid-December through mid-March at Mt. Spokane Ski & Snowboard Park.

Opportunities vary by position and may include:

Weekends
Saturday and/or Sunday daytime training

Weekday Evenings
Wednesday and/or Thursday night training

Camps & School Breaks
Preseason and holiday training opportunities

Race Travel
Selected regional race weekends based on program assignment and coaching experience

Not every coach needs to be available for every training day or race. We welcome conversations with candidates whose availability may fit a specific part of our program.

Compensation

MSSRT coaching positions are paid seasonal positions, with compensation based on coaching experience, certifications, responsibilities, and program assignment.

Additional professional development and coaching opportunities may be available throughout the season.

New to Coaching?

You don't necessarily need to arrive with years of ski coaching experience.

If you're a strong skier who enjoys working with kids, we encourage you to reach out.

MSSRT can help the right candidates navigate appropriate U.S. Ski & Snowboard membership, SafeSport requirements, background screening, and coach education needed for their role.

For former ski racers and competitive athletes, coaching can also be an incredible way to stay connected to the sport while passing your experience on to the next generation.

Why Coach With MSSRT?

Because a great youth coach does much more than teach someone how to ski around gates.

You'll have the opportunity to help young athletes develop confidence, independence, resilience, friendships, mountain skills, and a lifelong connection to skiing.

You'll also spend your winter outside, work alongside people who love the sport, continue developing your own skiing and coaching knowledge, and become part of the Mt. Spokane mountain community.
